This style of fortune-telling top was first introduced almost 1,500 years ago. Today, there is only one artisan left in Japan who is skilled enough to transform yards of ribbon into colorful, twirling teetotums. The fabric is wrapped around a bamboo stem by hand which makes each Kyoto Spinning Top unique. An ancient craft tradition revived for modern times.

Available in 4 assorted colors and sizes. Made by traditional artisan Yoshiyuki Nakamura in Kyoto, Japan.

Bought this as a gift and ended up keeping it for myself. Watching the ribbon unfurl into a blur of color when it spins is genuinely mesmerizing, and you can feel the craftsmanship in the balance. Knowing there's only one artisan left in Japan doing this makes it feel special.

The ribbon work on this is unreal, I keep picking it up just to watch the colors blur when it spins. Knowing there's only one artisan left in Japan making these makes it feel like a real keepsake, not just a trinket. Gave one to my niece and now I want a second for myself.
