We discovered this beautiful puzzle while traveling through the mountains of Hakone, Japan. We were already impressed with the seven exotic kinds of wood used in the construction but when we saw the top slide open, our jaws dropped. The rotating mechanism reminded us of a camera shutter or a blooming flower. Turns out, the designer, Hiroshi Iwahara, was inspired by robot anime and the spiraling metal doors that led to a secret base. If you decide to invest in this collector's item, you may notice a rattling sound even after you think you've opened the box. Well, that's just a little extra treasure still waiting to be discovered... Remember, this puzzle box was inspired by a "secret base."

Handcrafted from shiuri cherry, katsura, oak, walnut, padauk ancient katsura, and keyaki(zelkova). Extremely limited quantities.

The sound it makes when those wooden panels slide and click shut is so satisfying—I find myself solving it over and over just to hear it again. The wood feels warm and smooth in my hands, and it's become the perfect little fidget for my desk.

The seven different woods aren't just for show—each panel has its own grain and feel, and sliding them in the right sequence takes real patience. My wife and I traded it back and forth for an hour before the final click, and that moment was worth every wrong turn.

I’ve spent a full evening just sliding the panels back and forth, and the mechanism is so smooth it’s almost hypnotic. The wood grain on the outside is stunning, but the real joy is the little click when you finally line up the right sequence and the drawer pops open.
