Took me a full evening of wiggling and rotating before the pieces finally released—that loose feel is deceptive. The four-part mechanism clicks back together smoothly once you know the trick, and it's satisfying enough that I've already reset it for a coworker.
I kept fidgeting with it during my lunch break and finally felt that satisfying click when the pieces separated. The way the four parts rotate feels almost too easy, but getting them apart took real patience and a bit of logic.
